The AGI Ars Magna

What is AGI?

"What is AGI?" Neha asked me over dinner.

"I don't know, and to be honest I don't think we ever will know."

Till recently, AI has been about narrow models.

Eg. AlphaGo. Trained using the world's top Go players game play.

It eventually learned to beat the best.

ie. AI mastered a specific domain. Which we could measure.

AGI is when "it" beats the "best" in every domain.

But this goes beyond just data sets, GPUs, and neural nets.

It delves into psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, and sociology.

Fields where we, as humans have barely scratched the surface.

For whether "it" is AGI we must first fully understand these fields.

IMO there will always be a gap between what we know and don't.

This insatiability to know is what will fuel our species towards AGI.

In this quest, we will def. gain a deeper understanding of "us".

But unf. I don't think we will ever get there.

Which is good.

Because can a satiated version of "us" really exist?
